Ice Edge Orange Captures Second in Meltdown

05/02/2011, 1:34pm (CDT)
By Tony Zosel

In an early Sunday morning clash, the Ice Edge Elite Orange battled the Wisconsin Junior Jets.

The outcome was always in question with constant ties and lead changes the game went to overtime. The Orange were led by a balanced attack of scorers: Brady Knowles, Aaron Frenkel, Peter Colby and Nathan Johannes in the regulation.  Jack Hanson officially grounded the Jets with a pretty goal on a pass from Johannes to win it 5-4.

The Orange lost in the final 4-1 to the 2001 MN Blades.

A great effort by the team over the weekend.  Next up the International Cup in June.

The Elite Orange took a big step toward winning their first piece of hardware for 2011 by beating the Midwest Crush 7-3.

In a see saw battle that saw several lead changes in the first two periods, the Elites pulled away in the third period to advance to the Semifinals of the Minnesota Meltdown.

Tied 3-3 after two lead by 2 Peter Colby goals and a tally by Jack Hanson, the Elites got the lead for good with two goals by Nathan Johannes, one by Cole Wilson and a game finisher by Brady Knowles.

Two big games Sunday - the first versus the always tough Wisconsin Junior Jets (undefeated this weekend as well in their pool) at 8:00 am, with a 3rd place or championship to follow at 1:15.

Nice job boys.

Elite Orange beats Mustangs Like a Rented Mule

Coining a famous phrase from famous Penguin announcer, Mike Lange, the Elite Orange beat the Manitoba Mustangs 5-1 early Saturday morning to go 2-0 in pool play.

Led by two goals each by Jack Hanson and Peter Colby...and a single goal that started things off by Jeremy Santiago, the Elites finished off the visitors from the North.

Standing in their way to the number 1 seed from their pool is the Midwest Crush coming up at 2:15 today.
